Credit Counselling

Statistics show that most Americans wish they knew more about how to solve credit problems. That lack of knowledge can result in mistakes that end up costing the consumer a great deal of money. That is why so many people are turning to credit counseling services these days. And while some of these organizations can provide the help you need, not all of them are so helpful or ethical. There are both non-profit and for-profit credit counseling services, and some of each kind can be helpful and reputable. They can provide help in assessing why you're in debt and steps to cutting spending, managing a budget, and paying off debts. Some may also be able to provide some help with creditors, although few creditors will consider negotiations until you've missed some payments and damaged your credit rating. Other, less reputable, agencies charge high fees and make big promises, but often fail to fulfill them. Your own attempts to negotiate with credit card companies may be equally as successful. And a lawyer may provide the legal and economic insight you need, at a rate that may be less than what an unethical service would charge.
